How to Become a More Positive Person

Let's face it, life can be tough. We all face turbulent times, whether it's stress from a job, family, living conditions, anything - life can deal a mean hand. I've recently been through some stressful life changes myself but refuse to let it get on top of me. There are certain things I do to ensure that I stay positive and not let it affect my way of life - here are a few of my tips on staying positive, even when life can prove a challenge:

Smile more // trust me, it's infectious and surprisingly, works. If you force yourself to look and appear happier, it's likely that you will actually become happier yourself.

Eat well, sleep well // I don't think I need to tell you the importance of eating well and sleeping well. Eating right makes you feel right, it's not rocket science. Try to make a conscious effort to include healthier, richer foods in your diet to help feed your brain and give you the energy you need to face the day. Sleep is also super important and crucial for a happy, healthy mind. I make a real effort to get a good night's sleep - lack of sleep makes me a proper goblin.

What will be, will be // life is a journey full of ups and downs. It's so important to try and understand that sometimes it will be rough and sometimes it will be smooth - but don't worry too much, life is a looooong journey and you'll find stressful situations usually sort themselves out after a while. I find listening to this song helps me calm down in particularly stressful situations - it's become a sort of praying mantra for me, I try and quote it as many times that I can! My favourite line? "Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life". That reassures me every time.

Time is precious, use it wisely // switch off the iPhone, get away from the TV and technology and head outside, it's amazing how much fresh air and some exercise can help to change your mood and outlook.

Focus on Reality // this is similar to my previous point, but try your hardest to focus on real life. Take time away from the computer screens and 'fake' life of social media. Don't compare yourself to others online. Focus on your own life, your own friends and relationships. Don't let the 'glossy' online appearance of other peoples lives affect how you feel about your own.

Have fun! // life is not meant to be taken too seriously. I've sometimes wondered that if aliens came down to earth, they would laugh at all the trivial things we humans seem to stress about. If you do find yourself stressed out over something, take a step back, breath and relax. To help with this, I really recommend yoga. It's a peaceful practice that will help you meditate, relieve any tension you may have and allow you to focus on your own body. There are plenty of excellent videos on YouTube that allow you to practice in your own home, so no excuses! :)

I would love to hear some of your own tips on staying positive and leading a happy life. I truly believe it's the small things in life that count, and you should always put your own happiness first.

More soon,

Helen
