Journey to Stornaway, Isle of Lewis in Scotland.

Hello lovelies!
You may have read my previous post, where I talked about a recent trip with friends around Scotland. I spoke about the importance of exploring your own country, and in some sense, being a tourist in your own area. I came home from the previous trip with a real case of the travel bug. I'd been bitten by adventure and was desperate to go someplace new.
My boyfriend was out living in Stornaway studying energy engineering for the year and had invited me to visit. Never before had I planned to travel so far west, and this place was pretty rural indeed. Nevertheless, I was excited to go and visit a place that I would never have thought about visiting before.

Firstly, the remote island was beautiful. The dramatic and stunning landscapes were worth the visit alone, and we were surrounded by so much countryside and nature, it was such a tranquil and relaxing place to forget about everything else. We did the usual tourist spots, such as the ancient man-made Callandish Stones, which strongly stand out against the vast landscape. We drove across the entire island, stopping to admire the dazzling Luskentyre Beach, continually voted one of the best beaches in the entire world. It's unique turquoise blue water makes the beach stand out for miles and, if only the weather had been nicer, we could have easily mistaken Stornoway for the caribbean.
We continued our adventure along the Golden Road, the most isolated country road you could ever imagine. We were lucky to drive along the road whilst the sun set on the island. The stunning surroundings made us stop the car and get out just to admire the beauty of the place. Unfortunately, my phone lost battery and I was unable to take any pictures, but a part of me was also happy about that - I was able to forget about my iPhone and really live the moment. The memory of that trip is still in my head and I won't forget about it anytime soon.
More soon,

Helen

  13. Beautiful post and photos, your visit to Stornaway was interesting to hear about. Everything looks unbelievably scenic and picturesque. Somewhere I would definitely want to explore with my camera, although being in the moment is just as important. Sounds like it was a memorable trip for you! :-) xx
